Details

Für uns als Geocoin-Fans und waschechte Kölner war es klar, dass endlich ein Geocoin her muss, der unseren Dom gebührend repräsentiert. Die Eventedition "Rut-Wiess" wurde erstmalig auf dem Kölner Event „Klaav un Tratsch op Kölsch" verkauft. Die Rückseite wurde dem aussergewöhnlichen Fenster des Kölner Doms nachempfunden. Auf der Vorderseite ist der Kölner Dom mit vielen Details und der umlaufenden Schrift "Hohe Domkirche St. Peter und Maria - Unesco Weltkulturerbe" abgebildet.

English description of Cologne Cathedral:

Cologne Cathedral, constructed between 1248 and 1880, is considered a masterpiece of Gothic architecture and was inscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1996. At the time of its completion in the 19th century, the cathedral was the tallest building in the world. The builders of Cologne Cathedral had perfected the cathedral as a form. The design of the western façade broke every convention: as the largest church façade in the world, it was to cover a surface area of 7,000 square metres, flanked by two mighty 156-metre towers.

The large window in the façade of the north transept was donated by citizens of Cologne on the occasion of the elevation to cardinal of Archbishop Johannes von Geissel in 1850. The window was made in the Cologne workshop of Friedrich Baudri and installed in 1865. The window suffered extensive damage in the Second World War. All that remains of the original window are the large standing figures, which represent characters from the Old Testament. Wilhelm Teuwen, who also designed the glazing for the triforium, designed the tracery of the window in 1968. The ornamental panels above the figures were designed by Hubert Schaffmeister in 1980.
