Die Idee für die Bockereyders Geocoin entstand während des Design-Wettbewerbes für die Dutch Geocoin 2011. 
Das Design wurde nicht gewählt, jedoch wurde die Idee später von Woejam ([[Geocachingshop.nl]]) aufgegriffen 
und nach einigen Änderungen umgesetzt. 
 
Der Entwerfer gab sinngemäß die folgende Erklärung für die Idee zu seiner Coin ab: 
"Zu einer der bekanntesten regionale Erzählungen gehört die Geschichte über die Ziegenreitern (Bokkenrijders). 
Seit dem frühen 18. Jahrhundert wird über diese Gruppe Räubern erzählt, die ihre Raubzüge beidseits des 
Flusses "Maas" unternahmen. Insbesondere die Regionen bei Kerkrade (Niederlande), Aachen (Deutschland) 
und Wellen (Belgien) wurden von ihnen heimgesucht. Hierbei glaube die Bevölkerung, das die Räubern auf 
Ziegen durch die Luft ritten...."

The idea for the Bockereyders Geocoin was born during the design competition for the dutch geocoin 2011. 
The first design for this geocoin was sent in, but did not won the competition. Nevertheless the idea was 
born and together with Woejam ([[Geocachingshop.nl]]) they continued on the idea. After some changes to the 
design the Bockereyders geocoin was born. 
 
The designer of the coin gave the following explanation for his design: 
"One of the famous legends in our region is the legend of the Bokkenrijders (goatriders) or as it was 
written back in the 18th century: Bockeryeders. It was a fearsome gang that operated in the border region 
on both sides of the river Maas (Meuse), both in the Netherlands (Kerkrade), Germany (Aachen) and Belgium 
Wellen). It was believed they rode on goats through the sky....." 
On the front of the coin the 3D head of a goat is shown. The head is framed by the words "Bockereyders" 
and "Goatriders" repeated several times. The back shows a 2D goat head which is surrounded by a carved 
work from the origninal design, the words "Goat riders in the sky" and the letters "CRW" and the 
highlighted "S".
