The Flying Fortress Geocoin was a project by [http://geocoin4you.com geocoin4you.com] for a event at a mystery cache in Czech Republic.

There have been a long thought about the design of the Flying Fortress Geocoin. Ideas about the appearance of wrecked machine, about the shape of the flying fortress (B-17) and the coin layout.

Finally [http://geocoin4you.com geocoin4you.com] chose a classical round shape through which the plastic 3D B-17 fly through. The fortress step out from the altimeter, which marks the edge of the backgroung. The texture under the plane symbolises the sky.
The backside reminds about the B-17 crash site in Slaný (Czech Republic).

Four different editions have been made. A RE version which is going to be on sale even after the end of the event. A LE which contains 50 pieces, a XLE with 20 pieces and a donor edition which could only be obtained in the set, by supporting the project.

The description of the historical event of 2 March 1945:
*On the 2 March 1945, 1235 bomber planes took off from the 8th aerial army USAAF (Fortress and Liberators) followed by 774 accompanying fighter planes (Mustangs and Thunder folly). They flew in the direction to GERMANY. They were supposed to destroy several manufactures of fuel. In response 200 Germany planes took off from IX. Fliegerkorpsu. The air battle took place over Saxony (Germany) and BOHEMIA. Their targets were refinery in Bohlen a Rositsu. Several bombs were thrown at the town Ústí nad Labem. The American fighter planes were detected near the town Duchcov at about 10,19 o clock. Most of them were without bombs. They were supposed to return home. Although they were attacked by Focke Wulfu Fw 190A-9 and D9 in the area over Kladno and Slany. At 10,36 o clock one of the victims was bomber B–17G S.N. 44-6573. Before the crash the plane split into several parts and only two pilots (back shooter and side shooter) of whole crew (9 members) jumped out of the plane. The first one landed a few kilometres from the wreck between villages Olšany and Brandýsek. During the landing he broke his arm. And then was examined by a local doctor and was taken to the hospital in Slaný. We do not know anything about 2.shooter and later was claimed as dead. Other crew members unfortunately died during the crash.
