Die Mercator Geocoin wurde entworfen von dem Geocacher [[technetium]] der die Geocoin zusammen mit dem [[geocoinshop.de]] münzen ließ.

Geboren am 5 März 1512 in Rupelmonde (Belgien) wäre Gerhard Mercator am Veröffenlichungsdatum der Geocoin 500 Jahre alt geworden. 
 
Gerhard Mercator ist vorwiegend bekannt für seine Arbeit als Kartograf und Globenhersteller. Hier insbesondere für seine letzte gefertigte

The Mercator projection is a cylindrical map projection presented by the Flemish geographer and cartographer Gerardus Mercator in 1569.
